Gator? I hardly know 'er
On Sunday, we drove a few hours down Everglades National Park. It's quite large, and has only one road that leads through the park with several stops along the way. The first stop had a path along a river that turned into a boardwalk. Within the first 100 feet, Teal spotted a baby alligator near the trail. We went on to see 4 more full size alligators near the path and boardwalk, lots of fish, and lots of birds. The second picture is of the baby gator; you can see it's striped tail in the water. The grasshopper was about 3 or 4 inches long and neon orange and green.
There were a few more stops with short hikes or lookout towers and then the road ended at the Flamingo marina. There was a huge crocodile in the marina right next to the dock and 5-8 manatees a little further down.
From Flamingo, we drove back up the only road out of the park and drove down to Key West where we slept in a parking garage for the night. It caught me off guard to be woken up in the middle of the night to the sound of a rooster. Apparently wild chickens roam the city. There was a proposal to hunt them all down and get rid of them, but the locals voted no; I'm not sure why.
