The Big Cities

After staying in a Pennsylvania McDonald's parking lot on Thursday (5/13/2021), I got up and drove to New York City.  The plan was to take a normal public transportation ferry ride, not a tourist one, but there was no parking anywhere neat the dock.  Instead, we moved on to Times Square.  There was surprisingly a place we could park on the street, and then walked through Times Square to Cental Park.  On the way, I bought a Krispy Kreme Big Apple dounut that you can only get at the store in Times Square.  I walked around Central Park for a while and then got lunch from a food cart on the street.  I got a lamb gyro and Teal got a shish kabab, both delicious.  On the way out, I drove down along the south edge of Manhattan to hopefully see the Statue of Liberty, but right before it came into view, the road went down into a tunnel.  I took the Brooklyn Bridge as a last chance to see the Statue from a distance, and it worked.

After New York, we went up to Boston to visit Teal's sister Haley and her boyfried Nate.  We stayed the night at their apartment on Thursday night and explored Boston on Friday.  It ended up being a long day of walking, about 12 miles total.  For dinner, we all went out for hot pot, which I've never had before.  There's a stovetop in the table and they bring you a pot of broth and put it on the heater.  Then they bring a bunch of vegetables and uncooked meats and you cook it by putting it in the hot broth.  It was fun.  On the walk back, we stopped for ice cream and the shop had waffle cones with rice crispy treats stuck to the top few inches of the cone, super good.

We stayed in Boston for the night and headed up to Maine after brunch.  Our campsite for the night was a clearing off an old logging road that was nice and quiet; a nice change from the truck stops and parking lots.  Now I'm in a Walmart parking lot, about to head into Acadia National Park for the day.
